How the microphone test works

After permission is granted, the browser opens the selected microphone and analyzes the live waveform. The level meter summarizes signal strength; the page does not record, transmit, or save the audio stream.

What a useful level looks like

Normal speech should move the meter clearly without keeping it near maximum. A nearly motionless meter usually means the wrong input is selected, the microphone is muted, permission is blocked, or system input gain is too low. Constant maximum readings may indicate excessive gain or background noise.

If the microphone does not respond

  • Confirm the correct input in operating-system sound settings.
  • Check the browser's site permission and reload after changing it.
  • Disconnect other headsets or virtual audio devices temporarily.
  • Close meeting software that may hold exclusive access.
