What CPS measures
CPS means clicks per second. The test divides the number of accepted clicks by the selected duration. A one-second round measures a short burst, while 5 and 10-second rounds are better for comparing consistent clicking technique.
The first click starts the timer and counts toward the result. Clicks are recorded through browser pointer events, so browser load, input hardware, and operating-system scheduling can cause small differences.
Use the same conditions
- Keep the same mouse, browser, hand, and duration between attempts.
- Place the pointer near the center of the target before starting.
- Rest between repeated rounds to avoid comparing fresh and fatigued attempts.
- Do not use automation, macros, or accessibility click features.
Which duration should you use?
One second emphasizes peak speed and is sensitive to timing luck. Five seconds balances speed and control. Ten seconds shows repeatability, while 30 seconds is more about endurance. See the differences in our guide to average CPS by test duration.
