What the refresh-rate test measures

The browser schedules one callback for each animation frame. This tool records the time between callbacks, removes unusually long pauses, and converts the average interval into an estimated refresh rate. A 60Hz result corresponds to roughly 16.67 milliseconds per frame.

Why a result may be lower than expected

  • The operating system may still be configured for a lower refresh rate.
  • Battery-saving settings can limit browser animation.
  • A background tab, busy processor, or remote desktop can skip frames.
  • The cable, adapter, port, or selected resolution may cap the display mode.

Browser estimate versus hardware measurement

This is a practical configuration check, not an oscilloscope measurement of the panel. Small variations are normal. Run it a few times with the tab visible and compare the rounded result with the display setting. Read 60Hz vs 120Hz vs 144Hz for interpretation.
